back!

Haven't blogged in a while. I'm now officially a senior in college! I had a great semester with some great professors (and one drone in a teacher costume).

I just arrived in Houston where I will be interning at Texas Right to Life. I've never worked in an office setting before and I really like the staff, so I'm ready to start working tomorrow!

Already missing Ryan a little bit, and it has only been 10 hours. Ha ha ha ha. I've seen him every single day for the whole semester basically, so I'm thinking the next 4 weeks are going to be interesting and filled with lots of Skype calls.

I'll be blogging a bit during my stay in Houston. TTFN!

happy hour

I got back to my apartment from being home for spring break and I checked my mail and I had a copy of The Human Life Review waiting for me... and my writing was in it! That was such a nice feeling. I am now changing my name to Appendix F (Appendix for short). KIDDING!

Now, my e-mail is down and the TX State website is down... so I can't catch up on e-mails or check on homework... darn! ;) Just had a nice hour long guidance session from Melissa at Texas Right to Life and she talked me through some issues Bobcats for Life has been having. Cool times!

It is also Sonic Happy Hour... so I'm going to go get my cherry limeade on and then read some articles by people that are way smarter than me and then I'm going to clean the rest of the apartment. Oh, spring break!

if I could tell the story in words...

"If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera." -Lewis Hine (idk who that is)

Today I went to classes, worked, and had a pro-life meeting with my Priest and some Bobcats for Life regarding a pretty awesome event we're planning for March! Now, I've finished my homework and done a little bit of life work and shared some photo files with TX Right to Life and that made me look at my pictures again and I wanted to share them here.

I like this quote: "Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner." I don't consider myself a photographer, but man.... I love to take pictures. So much! It's nice to be in them, and I honestly wish I'd been in just one at the rally but whatevs, but mostly I love taking them. I also love capturing people when they are really happy, especially laughing. Among my friends and Bobcats for Life, I am known for demanding "fake laughing" pictures. Anyways, here's some TX Rally For Life pics!

Fr. Brian with one of Bobcats for Life's very kind and generous friends!

My TX Right to Life babes. Oh and actually I was in 1 picture! This one!

This picture just makes me say hell yes.
Also, it makes me say Caroline looks so tan.

Schneidy loves the babies.

Emily was adopted and I seriously love this picture.

Courtni reppin b4L!

i love this.

Angelica & her boyfriend.
p.s. guys.... pro life rallies= HOT date

my group :) AND this was after a few people had already left!
Tyler and I were collecting donations and my 2009 prom date took this picture.
Just had to add that fun fact. LOLz.

when Benedict started crying, his hilarious mom said "he's crying because abortion  makes him so sad!" and it was the funniest moment of the whole march.  he is so perfect.

crafting and laugh-ting

On Friday I went to Houston for Texas Right to Life's 14th Annual Celebration of Life. I gave a little speech, so that was fun! It was so great to see a lot of my friends from across the state that I normally don't get to see or chat with, like Ms. Carol! Saturday morning we had brunch with some state representatives and then headed back to San Marcos. It was a quick little trip to Houston, but very worth it.

Today marks the 31st anniversary of China's One Child Policy.... but I'm writing about that tomorrow night. Instead of today being sad though, we had a very productive Bobcats for Life meeting at my apartment followed by a craftathon for our upcoming fundraiser. I love crafts & I love Bobcats for Life... so it was a great combo. Here's some pictures of the craft (flower bracelets) that I'm so excited about.
so great, right?!!!

had a great time with these girls just chatting and working.
I'm really excited about these bracelets. We put some of the baby feet pins in the center of the flowers and it looks so cute. Buttons look great too. I think we'll sell a lot of these for B4L.

you give me fever

I'm sick. I have been awake off and on since 4:30 this morning and it has been a strange day of waking and sleeping and nightmareing and throwing up (you're welcome for that much needed information) and trying to lay completely still in bed so that I wouldn't feel the urge to puke. It has been quite a day and I missed 4 classes... but the day is over. Just hoping it isn't the flu because I cannot handle getting sick right now.

On another note, I am really lucky to have a great support system all around me throughout my sickness and stress... specifically some lovely ladies, and a few select men, I have met in the Pro-Life movement. I don't just have one support group- I have 3!

First of all, my TX Right to Life family.
I only get to see them all together one time a year at training in June, but the times when I get to see one or two or a few at a time bring me so much joy. We are all facing so many of the same obstacles that we can help each other with and we can all share in each others' joy when one of us finds success. It's really a beautiful thing. These are only a few of the beautiful faces that are scattered across Texas working to defend the unborn and I am so proud to call each of them my friends.

Secondly, my Bobcats for Life family.
I'm so lucky to have these amazing ladies at my side as we deal with the problems life throws at us. They do a great job dealing with me when I get overwhelmed/just want to run away from frustrations, because those frustrations sure show up a lot. They keep me grounded and help me out anytime I ask. They take initiative and think ahead - insert photo of Caroline with her attendance clipboard here and Megan with her Rosary fundraiser ideas - and keep everything in B4L rolling. Also, they are beautiful and hilarious and make doing the work we do SO much fun.

Lastly, but DEFINITELY not least, my National Right to Life Academy sisters.
Spending 6 weeks with 10 girls is bound to create strong friendships, but I didn't realize just how strong and important each of these girls would be to me. I was reminded of that today when I sent a group message out letting them know what I've been going through with school, sickness, and trying to find a balance in life and I was quickly comforted by their kind and thoughtful words that gave me strength and made me laugh. I had expected to keep in contact with the group but I didn't realize how closely connected I would feel to them thanks to our little messaging group we created. Everyday I can hear from a different girl about a trial she is facing or about a joy she wants to share. It's as if I saw them all just last week; it's strange to think it might be a very long time until we will all be reunited in real life. I am so appreciative of them all... especially today.

These beautiful women with such incredible values, strengths, and hearts all have my back and I have each of theirs. I'm so lucky.

legacies of love

Well, it is summer and as the year drew to a close, our Pro-Life club (Bobcats for Life) had an abundance of wonderful ideas and plans for this upcoming school year. I am so excited to already be planning events that will take place from August until January.

fetus disposal (with the help of

I spent the first week of June in Houston training with Texas Right to Life, a wonderful Pro-Life organization. Every summer they provide training for the students who are a part of their Generation Now scholarship program and it has been such a blessing. The training not only strengthens us, the students, as leaders on our campuses, but it gives us a whole new community of love, support, prayer, and such a great group of friends who can share in each others' frustrations and successes.

I feel so reenergized after training and hearing from some incredible speakers including a Catholic bioethicist and director of Human Life International of America, a Catholic anesthesiologist and mother, a woman conceived in rape, a woman whose mother tried to abort her in 1969 but survived the saline abortion, a public speaking expert, a post-abortive couple who have started an organization to help women who are post-abortive, a woman who was adopted and started an organization to promote adoption, a chiropractor whose wife and 2 of his children are adopted, a Pro-Life graphic designer, 2 beautiful ladies of the Texas Right to Life legislative team, a mother whose unborn child was diagnosed with Trisomy-18, and a man whose life was spared by a notorious abortionist.

Our group with a man whose life was spared by Dr. Tiller
One recurring idea that I found in some of the stories that were shared with us was legacies of love. The man whose life was spared by the abortionist later went on to be adopted by a loving family, meet a beautiful woman, and they now have 2 children of their own. Had he been aborted, not only would his own life have ended but his adoptive family, future wife, future children, and future grandchildren to come would have been deprived of their happiness and even their very own lives. Aborting a child is more than just ending one life, it is ending a legacy. Likewise, from the man whose wife and 2 children were adopted, imagine where he would be had the mothers of the people he loves the most had not chosen life. Adoption is a loving option and without it, where would this man be?

Just a little thought for now. Here's a few pictures of other events of the week!

there's no such thing as free lunch, but there is such a thing as free silly bandz

I haven't updated in a while... so incredibly busy! The semester is winding down and I've decided to switch my major to Social Work. Excited about that, but that's another story for another day.

I love when I go to check the mail and my favorite Pro-Life organization has sent me Pro-Life cups and notepads and sillybandz :)

on this perfect day

Today the doorbell rang and my roommate and I looked at each other like uhhh how about YOU answer that... and I ended up answering it. I crept up to the door to peek through the peephole, thinking it would be someone creepy, but it was the UPS guy... with a package... FOR ME!

Turns out... it was this! What a great suprise.
